Nie Pengju, deputy to the National People's Congress: Suggest speeding up the legislative work of maternity insurance

Release Time:2021-03-10

Since the implementation of the "comprehensive two child" policy in 2016, the birth population has climbed to the 17.86 million of 2016, and then declined for three consecutive years, and the policy effect has obviously subsided. In recent years, the fertility desire of women of childbearing age has decreased, and the aging of the population has accelerated. During the two sessions of the National people's Congress this year, Nie Pengju, deputy to the National people's Congress and chairman of Corel Electric Group, suggested speeding up the legislation of maternity insurance.

"The direct cause of the problem is the continued reduction of fertility intentions and the increase in fertility costs." Nie Pengju believes that the direct reason for the decline in fertility is that the current economic cost of having children is too high. "The economic conditions for childbirth, housing conditions, human resources and time and energy, high education development expenditures, etc. all need the economic foundation as a strong support."

In addition, he believes that fundamental changes have taken place in the fertility culture and willingness to bear children. The fertility concept and lifestyle of late marriage and late childbirth, fewer and better births have become the mainstream of social fertility concepts.

Nie Pengju suggested that we should strengthen publicity, strengthen the awareness of maternity insurance, speed up the legislative work of maternity insurance and expand the coverage of maternity insurance for employees.
